Question:  
Why should students learn a second language?

Introduction:

·         Hook / Topic Sentence: The students need to understand the importance of the English language. Due to the fact that English is the language of business, music, televisions programs, films, and many other aspects that globalization has brought us.
·         Background Information: Globalization makes us have a very large range of possibilities to know more about the world and to choose a way of life that we want. That is one of the reasons for what the learning and acquisition of the English language is paramount.
·         Thesis: Students should study a second language because they can improve their working possibilities and establish cross-cultural friendships.

Body (1):
Topic sentence:
In Colombia, it is traditional to teach students the English language starting primary or secondary school

For these reasons, it is important children can be in contact with the second language "English" since the pregnancy by means of stimulation and other strategies.

However, this responsibility is for all parents, they must begin to introduce the second language to their children.

·         In order for parents to carry on this task, it is not necessarily to be bilingual.
·         the family can expose their children to series, Tv programs, music, readings, news, videos, etc.

·         It is important to stand out the family´s role.

Topic sentence:
·         One of the key aspects underlying the English learning process is vocabulary.
  Supporting sentence:
·         According to (Harmer, 1991), is “the vital organs and flesh”.
·         One of those alternatives is teaching vocabulary through didactic activities and with realia materials so that English language learners can enjoy and learn at the same time.

·         The teacher can encourage students to use the target language in a creative and easy way.

First of all, it has to do with improving our working possibilities.

because nowadays one of the requirements to get a good job is to know a second language.

countries around the world hire globally-minded people who can speak at least one foreign language.

Topic sentence:
Second of all, Students who speak other language have the opportunity to establish deep connections and cross-cultural friendships.
Supporting sentence:
Students can learn about people from a different culture.

Students realized how the experience could be enriched by knowing that person’s language.

Topic sentence:
However, I want to say that students do not feel encouraged to learn a second language.
Supporting sentence:
because outside of the classroom they will have few opportunities to practice the new language.
Students do not use the second language outside the classroom

Students need to get in touch with foreigners in order to learn the new culture.

Body (7):
Topic sentence:
·         An amazing strategy in order for teachers to teach the English language in school, it is when they use “immersion".
Supporting sentence:
·         For instance, when the teachers are used the English langue to teach math, science, Physical Education (P.E.), pre-algebra, geometry, modern Literature, chemistry, etc.
·         It means Colombian students receive at least 45 minutes of English language every day in their schools. 
concluding sentence:
·         For these reasons, Colombian students should not learn a second language in isolation.
·         Students need to integrate the language as part of the content on a regular day and every single day.

Body (8):
Topic sentence:
·         When people learn two or more languages, they become smarter.
  Supporting sentence:
·         Because it gives learners several mental benefits.
·         When someone learns a new language, they can get a great cognitive process, excellent grades.
·         They can build multitasking skills, feed their brain, also people can stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia.

·         Colombian students who decide learn a second language, they get abstract and creative thinking.
Supporting sentence:
·         There are some activities that students demonstrate their high degree of abstract and creative thinking.

Topic sentence:
The economic reason is an important aspect in the learning process when pupils want to learn a foreign language.
  Supporting sentence:
·         Depending on their socio-economic status, students can attend a public or a private school in our country.
·         Private schools having an advantage over the public ones in terms of economic resources.
concluding sentence:
As a result; private schools encourage their students to get in touch with all the opportunities abroad.

Body (11):
Topic sentence:
·         The speaking skill is challenging because some students are able to complete grammar exercises, but it is difficult for them to keep a conversation in English.
  Supporting sentence:
·         Speaking is very important because when someone speaks in English, it is possible to realize the English level in a real context.

Topic sentence:
·         When the students are able to speak and understand a foreign language, they feel self-confident, self-image, and self-esteem.

·         It is a growth opportunity in their personal and professional lives.

·         Lanco-Worrell (1972 investigated groups of monolingual and bilingual children and compared their performance on a numb of tasks).

·         Furthermore, Lanco-Worrell found bilingual children believe that a word and its meaning is arbitrary rather than fixed.
